This essay is an english translation of Marte Danielsen Jølbo’s Norwegian essay “Teaterets spor” about Jakob Oredsson’s work Symbiotic Surfaces (Black Box teater Beings) at Black Box teater’s facade in Oslo, 2022.
During autumn 2022, thirteen Norwegian and international scholars, curators, artists, and architects have gathered at ROM for kunst og arkitektur, at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, and online to explore the status of the surface in our contemporary times as part of Metode’s first volume Deep Surface.
Metode’s research project #1: “Deep Surface: Rethinking Surfaces with Art and Architecture”
Editorial statement by Metode
Metode is an experimental gathering place and publishing platform for in-depth research and generative discursive practice run by ROM for Kunst og arkitektur
– So, what do think of the solution?
– I’m not sure I like the annex – it’s like the architecture has permanently defined the museum as something prehistorical.

In a field that plans and builds for everyone, it is natural to ask the question of who has the power of definition, which voices are included and excluded, and how inclusion and diversity in general fit in.
